Baking Soda for Minor Burns and Sunburn We all have experienced the pain and irritation that comes from burning ourselves, even if we burn ourselves mildly. There are a number of different things and you can do in order to overcome this problem, and many of them are available naturally to each and every one of us. Here is a little bit about how to overcome a problem with a slight burn and how something that may be hiding in your refrigerator can assist you in overcoming the burn altogether. The first thing that you will want to do whenever you burn yourself is to apply a little bit of cold water to the area. It is important for you to make sure that you don't use ice or ice water, as this can actually cause frostbite but rather, simply run some cool water over the area in order to take the temperature down and to ease some of the pain away. You should also make sure that you are not using butter, as this is a fairly common remedy but it is one that causes more problems than what it takes away. The next thing that you're going to want to do is to bring the pH to the proper level in the area. There are a number of different things that can do this, but one of the most common is baking soda. Perhaps you don't regularly keep baking soda around the house in your cupboards, but more than likely, you're going to have a box of Arm and Hammer hiding inside of the refrigerator, and that will do nicely. You can mix the baking soda with water in order to make it into a paste. You can also mix other items which are helpful for burns, such as apple cider vinegar, Lavender oil, honey or all natural yogurt. Once the paste is made, you would want to keep it at a cool temperature and continue to apply it in the area of the burn on a regular basis until the pain and stinging goes away. Once the paste begins to dry out and peel off, it is time to apply a new layer. Typically, it will only take an hour or so of doing this for you to see some real results. The baking soda and other ingredients in the paste help to neutralize the acid in the skin and this can really have some healing properties where a burn is concerned.
